Valve isn’t rolling out a brand new Steam Deck successor just yet, but they’re keeping things interesting by launching a limited edition version of their top handheld gaming device. Say hello to the Steam Deck OLED in a sleek, white color.
Officially named the “Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White,” this model mirrors the specifications of the current 1TB version, but with a price bump to $679—a $30 increase. This new edition is hitting shelves next week, specifically on Monday, November 18th.
Beyond the eye-catching white color scheme, this edition packs a gray accent and is bundled with a matching white carrying case alongside a microfiber cleaning cloth. Now, for those who recall, this isn’t Valve’s first dabble in aesthetics. Previously, they released a limited edition with a smoky translucent shell that flew off the shelves despite some minor cracking issues. This time around, Valve promises availability in all regions where the Steam Deck is sold, such as the United States, Canada, the UK, Europe, and, most recently, Australia. It’s also set to be available in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea through their partner, Komodo. To ensure fair distribution, stocks will be proportionally allocated across these regions.
In a bid to curb scalpers, Valve has set restrictions—only one white Steam Deck per Steam account, and the account must have completed at least one purchase before November 2024.
Valve shared that this particular release will influence their future decisions regarding color variants. They said, “We’re curious to see what the response is and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about any potential new color variants down the line.”
If you’re interested in achieving the white look without grabbing the Limited Edition Steam Deck, you can consider aftermarket options. Companies like Jsaux and dbrand offer alternative backplates and skins. However, if official hardware is more your style, make sure to snap up this variant before Valve’s stock runs dry.
Additionally, Valve hinted at exciting times ahead for the Steam Deck’s evolution. Beyond fresh color options and ongoing software updates, they’re also working on developing the next-gen Steam Deck and other hardware.
As I glance through the images, I can’t help but get nostalgic vibes reminiscent of the Wii U with a dash of iPod elegance. It’s going to be interesting to see if this new colorway entices current owners into a fresh purchase.
