Many gamers eagerly anticipated a juicy PS Plus Black Friday 2024 discount, but some are feeling pretty let down because the deal isn’t available to them. We recently highlighted that Sony seems to be shifting towards more personalized offers that change from player to player, leading to discounts that seem to pop up at random. Naturally, missing out on one of the year’s most hyped sales events isn’t sitting well with a lot of folks.
So, what’s the deal with the PS Plus Black Friday 2024 discount? Over at the PS Blog, Sony spilled the beans that newcomers can snag a sweet 30% discount on any 12-month PS Plus membership plan. For those who already have memberships, there’s good news if you’re moving up: whether you’re upgrading from Essential to Extra or Premium, or from Extra to Premium, there’s a discount waiting for you.
But here’s where it gets tricky. If you’re already a Premium member with nowhere else to upgrade, and simply want to renew or extend your subscription, it turns into something of a lottery for a discount.
Jumping over to Reddit, current subscribers are comparing notes and noticing different discounts when it comes to extending or renewing their memberships. Some, myself included, haven’t been offered any discount whatsoever. For me, as an Essential member, I spot a 30% discount when moving up to Premium and 25% for upgrading to Extra. But if I want to keep things as they are and extend my current plan, it’s back to full price.
While it’s definitely frustrating, this isn’t exactly new territory for Sony. They’ve been throwing random offers into the mix for a long time. It’s just becoming more visible now because they’re heavily leaning into personalized promotions.
