Sony is stepping up its game with an exciting development for its PlayStation Portal remote play device. They’ve announced the introduction of cloud streaming, which is a significant update, though currently, it’s in its beta phase and only available to a select group of users.
Hiromi Wakai, the Vice President of Product Management, shared this news on the PlayStation Blog. The update not only enhances audio functionality but also launches a beta for cloud streaming with a selection of PS5 games.
In this beta phase, over 120 titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog are being tested. Big-name first-party games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Ghost of Tsushima, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales are on the list, along with popular third-party games such as Dave the Diver.
The streaming quality can reach an impressive 1080p at 60 FPS. However, it’s worth noting that the performance might differ depending on the specific game and internet conditions. The catch here is that you must be a Premium tier PS Plus subscriber to access the cloud streaming feature.
This update certainly marks a promising step toward the vision many critics had for the Portal. Nonetheless, Sony doesn’t have much to prove, given how well the device has been performing in sales.
