Renowned for pushing the boundaries of handheld gaming, Ayaneo has revealed its latest premium device, the Ayaneo 3. Building on the foundation laid by its predecessor, this new iteration maintains the familiar design and button configuration while packing some impressive hardware advancements.
According to a recent update on the Ayaneo blog, the Ayaneo 3 offers two robust processor options: the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U and the mightier AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. You can expect a seven-inch display that’s available in either a high-refresh LCD or a vibrant OLED HDR format, both promising an engaging gaming experience. Additionally, Ayaneo has introduced two new buttons on the back of the console to expand gameplay possibilities.
Details like RAM, storage, and pricing are still under wraps, as Ayaneo has yet to disclose more about the Ayaneo 3’s specifications. For a bit of context, the previous Ayaneo 2 model offered configurations with 16GB or 32GB of RAM and storage options of 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. The starting price was $1,099, climbing to $1,549 for the special B.Duck edition. Given this, it wouldn’t be surprising to see similar offerings for the Ayaneo 3, albeit at a slightly steeper cost.
What sets the Ayaneo 3 apart from its competition is the inclusion of the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, a first for handheld consoles. While the NPU within the HX 370 might not see widespread use in current game titles, the processor’s four additional cores, along with its Zen 5 architecture and the integrated AMD Radeon 890M GPU, offer significant performance enhancements over the Ryzen 7 8840U. This makes it stand head and shoulders above many leading PC gaming handhelds, which typically rely on the Ryzen Z1 Extreme.
As the Ayaneo 3 prepares to enter a crowded market, expectations are high, with devices like the ROG Ally 2, MSI Claw 8 AI+, and Lenovo Legion Go Gen Two all likely to debut by late this year or early next year. It will be interesting to see how Ayaneo’s latest offering stands out in terms of features and overall gaming experience.
