StrikerVR, known for creating immersive haptic devices for virtual reality experiences, has just revealed they are opening pre-orders for their latest gadget: the Mavrik, a haptic VR gun crafted specifically for at-home use.
This innovative piece of tech is designed to work seamlessly with Quest 3 and Quest 3S, and it’s currently available for pre-order at a price of $499. For those eager to get their hands on it by Christmas, only 1,000 units are set aside for delivery during the holiday season. Otherwise, widespread shipping is scheduled to begin on March 15th, 2025.
The Mavrik mirrors its high-end Pro counterpart, which is popular in VR arcades, by offering intense recoil and haptic feedback that draw you deeper into the action. It also boasts a picatinny accessory rail and includes a mount for a Quest controller. This setup enables the headset to track the blaster with six degrees of freedom (6DOF), enhancing the overall gameplay feel.
Despite these advanced features, the price tag remains significantly less than the $950 for the Mavrik-Pro. However, as with many third-party VR add-ons, its success largely hinges on how many games support it. Currently, it’s not compatible with all games straight out of the box; game developers need to integrate support for the Mavrik into their Quest 3 titles manually.
Right from the start, the haptic blaster will come bundled with three games: “Tower Tag,” a strategic esports game by Steinfatt GmbH, “Laser Limbo,” a mixed-reality first-person shooter by freeroam.ar, and another exciting title that’s yet to be announced.
StrikerVR is actively working alongside game developers to expand the range of games the Mavrik will support, aiming to release new compatible titles throughout 2025. Looking ahead, the company plans to introduce a tracking upgrade with a removable top plate and hopes to secure ‘Made for Meta’ certification. This would position them among other certified Meta accessory partners, like D-Link’s VR Air Bridge and Zenni’s MR prescription lenses designed for Meta Quest 3S/2.
The details listed on the Mavrik’s product page include the main device, a left controller mount, a power adapter for US, EU, and UK outlets, and a USB-C charging cable. However, information on its battery lifespan and the specific haptic engines used remains under wraps for now.
