We’re still waiting for an official announcement, but word on the street is that an Oblivion remake is on the horizon, featuring enhancements to several key gameplay systems. If you’re planning to chase after The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion achievements in this rumored Xbox RPG remake, you might be excited to learn about some tweaks to areas like archery, blocking, hit reactions, the HUD, stealth, and stamina.
The buzz around an Oblivion remake has been simmering for quite some time. Recently, a fresh report has stirred things up, claiming that the remake isn’t just a myth. It’s supposed to be a full-fledged reimagining, with significant upgrades to several gameplay elements—think blocking, archery, and others.
The rumor mill has kicked into high gear with a scoop from MP1st. According to them, a former Virtuos employee’s now-concealed website had spilled the beans, hinting at multiple gameplay enhancements in the works. Although we couldn’t verify this site ourselves, MP1st, a pretty trustworthy source, mentions that this ex-employee was involved with the Oblivion remake between 2023 and 2024. Their past credits also include titles like Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and Call of Duty: Warzone. Apparently, descriptions on that site hinted that the remake is using Unreal Engine 5, promising a complete overhaul of the game with many improved features.
Archery appears to be getting a significant facelift, with updates to both first and third-person perspectives, likely giving it a fresh, modern feel. The blocking mechanics are reportedly drawing inspiration from Souls-like games, suggesting a more refined system. Both players and NPCs will experience better reaction animations when taking damage. The HUD has been redesigned to be more engaging and intuitive for new players. Stealth mechanisms are said to have revamped icons and improved damage calculations. Additionally, it should be more challenging to get knocked down when you run out of stamina.
The rumor suggests this remake is aiming for release on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC, utilizing a “pairing system.” This means the revamped graphics will shine through Unreal Engine 5, while the original Oblivion engine manages gameplay, physics, and related functions.
Initially, the Oblivion remake was speculated to make an appearance at the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct, scheduled for January 23, 2025. However, it seems that the game being unveiled is actually another major project from a high-profile Japanese franchise.
