Helldivers 2 has just rolled out an exciting new Major Order, and whether you’re still licking your wounds from the last mission or you’re jumping back into the game via Steam after a hiatus, this might be the perfect time to tune in to your next big assignment—and the surprises it might bring.
Following the previous Major Order that dusted off the Democracy Space Station to help combat the Illuminate, we’re now heading back to the forefront of the bug battles. If you’re a die-hard bugdiver, this is probably familiar territory, but it’s just as exciting each time.
So what’s on the docket for this latest Major Order? At first glance, it might seem routine: gather 22 million common samples from Erata Prime, snag 15 million rare ones from Gacrux, and ensure Fenrir III is under Super Earth’s control within the next four days. Straightforward? Maybe. But there’s a twist.
You’ll be contributing to new tech development geared toward handling “The Gloom,” that peculiar spore cloud haunting Terminid-occupied zones. Who knew it might be useful beyond the need for those ship foglights?
In a recent tweet, the Helldivers team shed light on current efforts: “MAJOR ORDER: The Illuminate campaign of terror continues unrestricted. Even the resurgent DSS couldn’t fully stem the xeno-autocracy tide.” But it wasn’t all doom and gloom, as they’ve discovered promising scientific breakthroughs with these enigmatic spores.
According to Arrowhead’s full briefing, recent experiments have revealed that Gloom spores can lead to mutations that significantly boost Element 710 yields, potentially up to tenfold. “The implications are monumental,” the briefing states. Exploiting the Gloom could pave the way for advanced FTL travel, impacting not just military and colonization efforts but also trade, research, and beyond.
Could this newfound resource mean more for Super Earth’s arsenal? Perhaps it will, unless things take a dark turn as some players suspect, creating even more formidable foes in the form of mutated bugs running amok.
Only time will tell, but this being Helldivers 2, expect a mix of both thrilling prospects and unexpected challenges.
