MSI recently responded to the swirling rumors about NVIDIA’s RTX 5090, which suggested a recall due to fire hazards. MSI firmly denied these claims, pointing out that the source of the rumor isn’t an authorized retailer.
NVIDIA’s RTX 5090: No Fire Hazard Risks, Says MSI; Legal Action Considered Against False Claims
Yesterday’s news certainly caused a stir when a Dutch retailer suggested that NVIDIA might recall the GeForce RTX 5090s over potential fire risks. This rumor specifically mentioned that an MSI SUPRIM model had been recalled. As expected, the news spread rapidly, prompting MSI to swiftly issue a statement to clear up the confusion:
“It came as a surprise to us that, on March 6, 2025, Kitguru reported that a retailer in the Netherlands, UW GAME SPECIALIST, informed a customer that they couldn’t complete an order due to an alleged recall of our GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim SOC cards over fire concerns,” MSI stated.
“We want to emphasize that these claims are entirely untrue. No recall is underway, and our products do not pose any fire risk. Additionally, we do not partner with this retailer.”
The company further expressed their right to pursue legal actions against those spreading these damaging and false claims, which they feel tarnish their brand’s image.
MSI advised customers to shop from their official authorized resellers, listing trusted names such as Megekko, Azerty, and Coolblue, among others.
This clarification puts to rest any fears about a new issue with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090. If a fire hazard had been possible, concerns would likely have centered around the power connector. NVIDIA is already grappling with production and supply challenges for the RTX 50 series, along with technical hiccups like missing ROPs and sporadic black screens.
For consumers, there’s no need to stress about their RTX 5090s bursting into flames, as MSI has confirmed there’s no such problem. We do, however, still recommend handling the flagship RTX Blackwell GPU with care during installation.
