ILM and Lucasfilm are embarking on crafting a new immersive experience set in the Star Wars universe, called Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset.
This exciting new venture will be available exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S and is set to unfold during the timeline of the Han Solo prequel, Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). There’s a hint of exhilarating podracing being part of the mix. According to ILM, players can look forward to teaming up with podracer Volo Bolus, joining forces with the legendary Sebulba, in what promises to be a thrilling and pulse-racing mixed reality adventure.
The term ‘Playset’ suggests the possibility of various mixed reality mini-games, although ILM hasn’t given the green light on that just yet. They often take a measured approach in unveiling bits and pieces about their XR games, typically releasing details about characters and gameplay elements slowly as the launch approaches. As of now, the official release date and trailer remain a mystery.
However, eager fans won’t have to wait too long to catch a sneak peek. Meta has announced that attendees of the Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, from April 18-20, will be treated to a first-hand experience with the game. Over a dozen demo stations will be set up, allowing fans not only to get a taste of Beyond Victory but also to revisit demo versions of previous favorites like Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
So, why dive into mixed reality? Jose Perez III, the director of Star Wars: Beyond Victory, explains that mixed reality offers a unique gateway into immersive experiences, enabling them to practically transport a galaxy far, far away right into players’ living rooms, delivering an experience unlike anything seen before.
And it certainly helps that Meta is likely providing substantial support for this mixed reality venture, much like it has done with ILM’s Star Wars VR projects over the years.
