Great news for those who were looking forward to a quirky and adventurous summer! Your virtual escapades are back on track with the eagerly anticipated indie dating sim, Date Everything, now set to release on June 17. Originally, it was slated to drop on Valentine’s Day, which seemed perfectly fitting, but delays have pushed the date to early summer.
If you’re scratching your head wondering about this game, here’s the scoop: imagine slipping on a pair of magical sunglasses and embarking on romantic endeavors with everyday objects. Picture a rollicking romp featuring voices you might recognize, like the talented Ben Starr from Final Fantasy 16, the ever-amusing Ashley Burch from the Horizon series, or Neil Newbon, known for his snark in Baldur’s Gate 3. That’s the essence of Date Everything.
In a new development, Sassy Chap Games has not only unveiled this June release date but also dropped an exciting trailer. Narrated by none other than Felicia Day, known for her roles in Fallout: New Vegas and the series Supernatural, the trailer introduces you to the enchanting “Dateviator” glasses. These special spectacles have the wondrous ability to bring everyday objects to life with just a glance.
The premise might sound a tad eccentric, but it’s all in good fun. For instance, your house’s front door transforms into Dorian—an incredibly attractive himbo with a gravelly voice to match, sporting cues that nod to his original function. Not to be outdone, a simple wall morphs into Wallace, a barbarian reminiscent of Conan, while your water heater takes on the persona of Winnifred, half-Greek goddess, half-Dalek. There’s even a vacuum cleaner named Hoovie thrown into the mix. The game offers a whopping 100 fully voiced datable characters, including, humorously, a tease of a toilet in the trailer.
As Kelsey, our adept reviewer, mentioned in their preview last month, “Relationships can be unpredictable. Dating inanimate objects like floorboards, hangers, or consoles adds another layer of unpredictability. But what Date Everything promises is a delightful blend of relaxation and absurdity, reminiscent of the charm found in Hatoful Boyfriend and Monster Prom. It’s in good company, which suits the game’s playful theme wonderfully.”
And who knows, if Felicia Day’s character happens to be one of the datable options, it might just be another opportunity to engage with a fan-favorite akin to Veronica Santangelo. Count me in!
