The team behind Arizona Sunshine is wrapping up support for its online multiplayer mode this coming July. The decision stems from Unity’s plans to phase out the UNet Service.
For those who’ve been following the VR scene since its early days, you’ll know Arizona Sunshine has been a staple since its debut in 2016, consistently supporting online play. Unfortunately, the developers at Vertigo Games have announced that as of July 1, 2025, the online multiplayer element will be retired. This move comes as a direct consequence of Unity’s decision to discontinue the UNet Service, which is crucial for the game’s online functions.
To give a bit more context, UNet is the multiplayer framework from Unity Engine that many developers relied on. Its deprecation began in 2019, and more recent guidance from Unity indicates that UNet will no longer be an option for game developers after July 7, 2025. Vertigo Games seems to be making a proactive move in light of this upcoming cutoff.
It’s important to note that this change only affects the original Arizona Sunshine’s online features. Players will still have access to the single-player campaign. Additionally, fans of the series can rest easy knowing that the online modes in Arizona Sunshine Remake and the sequel, Arizona Sunshine 2, remain unaffected. For those looking to transition, Vertigo is offering a $10 upgrade on the Remake version, available on Quest, PlayStation, or Steam for those who already own the original game on the same platform.
