Recently, Ayaneo stirred quite a bit of confusion with a post on their Ayaneo Flip Indiegogo project page. The original announcement led many to believe that their handheld series was getting the axe. However, a fresh update has shed some much-needed light on the situation, clarifying that the Ayaneo Flip KB and Flip DS are not being discontinued after all.
The confusion partly arose because although the production of the Ayaneo Flip series was called off, it happened after nearly completing their crowdfunding commitments. Specifically, a whopping 98% of the orders had already been dispatched, leaving just 18 orders in limbo. As we covered earlier, those remaining backers have the option for refunds or can exchange their orders for other products.
Moreover, Ayaneo is committed to the Flip series. They revealed plans to whip up a new batch with “several hundred Ayaneo Flip units in the next three months.” They also hinted at further developments in the lineup, mentioning possibilities for a Flip DS 2 and Flip KB 2. With the market already seeing some interest in foldable and slidable keyboard gaming devices, I personally think the Flip DS style could steal the spotlight — though that’s just my take.
For those who’ve been eyeing the Ayaneo Flip but held off, waiting for a proper retail release, here’s some good news. Though exact dates aren’t out yet, the company is working on a “limited restock plan.” Given the buzz this campaign has generated, I wouldn’t be surprised if they fly off the shelves once available.
It’s my hope that genuine gaming fans can snag these devices before resale opportunists swoop in. The Ayaneo Flip series, with its distinctive design and robust specs, sets itself apart in the crowded handheld market. It’s promising to see these devices gaining another shot at success before newer models eventually roll out.
However, those 18 individuals left out initially still face a decision. They need to either claim a refund or trade their pending order for another Ayaneo product by March 27. The company has assured they’ve reached out to these users already.
