Blade & Sorcery, the beloved VR combat simulator, hit a major milestone with its 1.0 release back in June 2024. But the team at Warpfrog isn’t resting on their laurels. They’ve already got their sights set on their next big project—another VR game that promises to be as “highly moddable” as their physics-driven hit.
Even though specifics about this new title are scarce, Warpfrog assured Road to VR that fans can expect a continuation of the studio’s trademark style. That means physics-based interactions and a strong focus on realistic simulation will remain at the forefront. Moreover, they emphasized that modding will be just as straightforward as it is with Blade & Sorcery.
For those familiar with Blade & Sorcery, modding is a breeze. You can either tweak it manually or use tools like Nexus Mod Manager to easily insert files into the game. This flexibility allows gamers to do everything from enhancing weapon effects to bringing entirely new maps and items into the game for fresh experiences.
In a chat with Meta last October, Warpfrog explained they’re revamping their framework for this new venture. The reason? They maxed out the old one during Blade & Sorcery’s extensive early access phase.
“We need to clean up some of our cluttered code. Essentially, we’re rebuilding from the ground up with a new engine. The fresh framework we’re creating will be faster and is designed for teamwork. For the first time, our entire team will collaborate from start to finish on this new game,” they revealed.
The anticipation for Warpfrog’s next steps is palpable. What began as a solitary developer’s passion project spearheaded by ‘KospY’ has evolved into a robust team of nearly 30 members.
The substantial 1.0 update in June was a game-changer. With the ‘Crystal Hunt’ story mode addition, Blade & Sorcery has morphed from a simple combat sandbox into a full-fledged adventure game. It now boasts not just intense melee action but also a rich narrative, upgrade systems, and a more cohesive and expansive world.
As Warpfrog hints at in a recent Steam news update, the journey is just getting started. “This is where the fun begins… Armed with the knowledge from the past five years, we can’t wait to unveil what’s next. Your support has enabled us to dream bigger and craft even more amazing games.”
