Blizzard has certainly been busy making numerous efforts to revamp Diablo 4, hoping to entice players with its latest advancements and perhaps nudge a few into buying their upcoming Vessel of Hatred expansion. But among all these strategies, there’s one that stands out for being a bit sneaky—though probably not on purpose, it still offers a bit of comic relief.
Diablo 4’s in-game store is notorious for its pricey skin bundles, mounts, and themed accessories, often making players think twice before spending. Yet, there’s a clever hook here: the more often you see these bundles priced at $20, the more you start to perceive a sale or free offer as a must-have bargain.
Enter Reddit user Kilyrka. While perusing the in-game store, the Mother’s Memory Prestige set for the Spiritborn class caught their attention. Typically, Prestige sets are the crème de la crème of costumes and priced around 2,600 Platinum, or roughly $22. However, what caught Kilyrka’s eye wasn’t the sparkling design but a peculiar pricing glitch—an offer listed at -1 instead of its usual cost.
Now, Kilyrka could’ve shrugged it off as just another bug, but therein lies the twist. They pondered if Blizzard was cunningly pushing them to purchase the Vessel of Hatred expansion, since the Spiritborn class—and thus the collection—is only accessible with that upgrade.
Reflecting on the moment, Kilyrka confessed, “I naïvely thought Blizzard’s cheeky pitch was: ‘Buy Vessel of Hatred, and snag this pack for just 1 silver!’—only later realizing the offer was truly ‘-1’ silver.”
So that’s exactly what Kilyrka decided to do. But post-purchase reality kicked in, returning the skin’s price tag to what everyone else sees—its rightful cost, albeit with a 40% discount. This incident confirmed that the rogue -1 Platinum was indeed a bug. “I felt swindled, not gonna lie,” they later admitted.
There’s a silver lining, though. Kilyrka managed to cancel their order and get a refund. Blizzard’s customer support has also been notified, addressing what happened. Sadly, Kilyrka won’t be experiencing the Vessel of Hatred or flaunting the stylish set anytime soon.
