Three weeks, four monkeys: that’s the latest update for the Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy library.
In keeping with the pattern of recent weeks, Donkey Kong Land III has swung onto the Game Boy library stage. Originally released in 1997, this game represents the third installment of unique Game Boy adaptations inspired by the iconic Donkey Kong Country series. In Land III, Dixie and Kiddy Kong embark on an adventurous quest to uncover the “Lost World” before K. Rool, Donkey Kong, or Diddy Kong beat them to it.
This particular game marks one of the rare occasions where Donkey Kong himself isn’t playable nor in need of a rescue within his own series. It also diverges significantly from SNES’s Donkey Kong Country 3, more so than its two predecessors did.
Meanwhile, in Japan, the app has opted for a slightly different version. Japanese players can enjoy the 2000 Game Boy Color re-release, a special treat that was initially exclusive to that region, instead of the classic Game Boy version.
