Market research firm Circana has unveiled October’s top-selling games across the US, with the details shared by Mat Piscatella, an executive director, on Bluesky. The lineup this month is noticeably filled with fresh releases. Topping the charts is no surprise, as Black Ops 6 had an explosive debut. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella proudly announced that its release on October 25 broke records for new Game Pass subscribers on its launch day. Meanwhile, sales on PlayStation and Steam saw a significant jump, exhibiting a rise of over 60% compared to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023).
Piscatella also noted that the influx of Game Pass subscribers due to Black Ops 6 notably increased PlayStation’s share of full game sales. Despite this surge, it didn’t cause a major dip in sales nor did it significantly boost Xbox Series hardware sales. Surprisingly, during the October period, PlayStation platforms dominated the console full-game dollar sales for Black Ops 6, accounting for a whopping 82%.
As we move down the list, the top five sees some remarkable first appearances. Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero secured the #2 position and impressively stands as the 45th best-selling game for 2024 so far. Just a month post-launch, it became the best-selling Dragon Ball game in US history in terms of lifetime dollar sales. Among Bandai Namco’s catalog, it’s only outpaced by Elden Ring and Dark Souls III.
Silent Hill 2 impressed by clinching the #3 spot. Its debut made it the top Silent Hill game in lifetime dollar sales, only second to the original Silent Hill 2 itself. For the year-to-date rankings of 2024, it sits comfortably at #28.
In other slots, Plaion’s Undisputed took the #4 position, with Metaphor: ReFantazio following at #5. Other notable mentions in the top ten include Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Sonic X Shadow Generations. These titles managed to push past EA Sports FC 25 and EA Sports College Football 25, which held the top and fifth positions, respectively, in September. EA Sports College Football 25, notably, is inching closer to being the best-selling sports video game in US history and might claim the top spot this November, according to Piscatella.
Meanwhile, Life is Strange: Double Exposure made its debut at #18. For those curious about broader market trends, you can explore the list of 2024’s best-selling games in the US to date.
