New Xbox consoles are now up for grabs with preorders opening today. We’ve got all the juicy details for you right here.
After months of anticipation following their announcement during the Xbox Games Showcase back in June 2024, Microsoft has finally lifted the curtain on the release date for its trio of new Xbox console variants, and you can secure yours right now.
Featured in the latest lineup is the eye-catching 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition Xbox Series X priced at $599.99. There’s also a streamlined all-digital Series X in Robot White available for $449.99, alongside a 1TB Series S, also in Robot White, which will set you back $349.99. Mark your calendars because they officially hit the U.S. market on Tuesday, October 15, as confirmed in an Xbox Wire post. Given the likely rush with the holiday season looming, you can make sure you don’t miss out by placing a preorder through the Microsoft Store, open from today, August 21.
The standout in this lineup has got to be the Special Edition Series X. With double the storage of its regular counterpart, it dazzles with a speckled lime green-on-black design. Microsoft describes this “celestial effect” as a tribute to the vast array of games and the millions of gamers within the Xbox community, though I’d say its bold look is just flat-out stunning. Plus, it comes paired with an exclusive Xbox Wireless Controller featuring a green back — adding a little more exclusivity to your setup.
In terms of innovation, the Robot White Series X is breaking new ground by ditching the disc drive, a first for Microsoft’s flagship console range. This move blurs the lines between the Series X and the more affordable Series S, though you still get more power with the Series X. It’s $50 less than the traditional black model that allows for physical media, and it offers a neatly matching controller to complete the set.
Turning to the 1TB Series S: aside from donning a fresh color, there’s nothing new here we haven’t seen before since last fall’s release of the 1TB Carbon Black Series S. Interestingly, it seems this version might be getting phased out as Microsoft has noted that “fans can still purchase [it] while supplies last,” though it looks like your only bet might be through third-party sellers now, given that the Microsoft Store is only offering refurbished units.
In essence, whether you’re eyeing more storage, a new digital experience, or just a splash of fresh color for your console, this new lineup has something to catch your eye — and hopefully not just catch your wallet!
