Janos Flösser, the former managing director of IO Interactive, renowned for the Hitman series, has announced the launch of his new studio, Wombo Games. This exciting venture is currently developing a strategy roguelike game titled Raiders of Blackveil, which plans to enter Early Access this summer.
Founded in 2023, Wombo Games marks a new chapter for Flösser, whose career spans nearly a decade at IO Interactive from 1998 to 2008 before he transitioned to Square Enix as the chief creative officer. After his stint there until 2016, he advanced to Crey Games, leading as CEO. Alongside these roles, he was also a partner, later becoming a senior partner, at Promentum Capital.
In a conversation with GamesBeat, Flösser shared, “We wanted to keep the studio small and nimble to explore its potential. Starting in July 2023, in just about a month and a half, we had an early playable version of the game. When our investors got their hands on it, they were thoroughly impressed and have been enthusiastic ever since. It’s the first time I’ve seen such excitement from investors over both the team and the concept. This enthusiasm helped us secure funding on three different occasions over the past two years. Currently, our focus is on crafting the perfect game tailored for the right audience."
