Yesterday, the highly awaited Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 hit the game shelves, and it made quite an entrance on Steam, instantly climbing to the top of the Top Sellers list. Impressively, it reached a peak of 159,351 players online at the same time. That’s quite a feat for a historical RPG!
This sequel has been eagerly anticipated since the original Kingdom Come Deliverance debuted back in 2018, and it seems to have outshone its predecessor in every way. The original game reached a commendable peak of 96,069 players on Steam, which was already a strong performance. But KCD2’s numbers indicate a major leap forward, and that’s just counting Steam users. Let’s not forget, it’s available on consoles too.
So, why the buzz? Simply put, the game is fantastic! In my review, I highlighted how it strikes a perfect balance between providing entertainment and the gritty realism rooted in its historically accurate foundation. The buzz generated by the first game has cultivated a bigger following eager to dive into the sequel, signaling a natural evolution of the series that’s getting better with time.
It’s important to note, though, that while this massive peak is unlikely to be surpassed soon, possibly just over the launch weekend, it’s quite a notable achievement. After finishing a single-player game, most players move on, except for those die-hard fans who can’t get enough or those who return for nostalgic reasons down the line. The talented folks at Warhorse Studios must be thrilled with these results.
