So, my long-lasting streak of not spending real money on Nintendo Switch Online is finally coming to an end.
Just after the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, one of the more beloved features of the Switch is wrapping up, and disappointingly, it won’t be carried over to the Switch 2.
Nintendo has officially announced that the My Nintendo Gold program will be discontinued starting March 25 at 12:59 a.m. ET. This program was pretty popular because it rewarded players with 1% of the cost of physical first-party releases during their first year with eShop credit, and 5% back for all digital eShop purchases. However, there’s a small window for physical games released between March 25, 2024, and the program’s expiration date. This window includes games from Endless Ocean: Luminous through Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. Unfortunately, Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t make the cut.
On top of that, Nintendo updated their support page confirming that Switch Online Vouchers won’t be compatible with Switch 2 games. These vouchers, which subscribers could buy in pairs for $99 US or the equivalent, were a handy way to get first-party releases. Fortunately, these vouchers will still be an option for upcoming titles on the original Switch, including Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
