Nintendo recently unveiled some exciting news via its brand-new Nintendo Today app, which was just launched yesterday. While fans eagerly awaiting news about the Nintendo Switch 2 will have to hold on for a bit longer, as those updates aren’t set to roll out until next week, the company has dropped some tantalizing details about the live-action Legend of Zelda movie. Mark your calendars because the film is officially set to hit theaters on March 26, 2027.
It took a mere day for the Today app to fulfill the promises made by Shigeru Miyamoto, delivering significant Nintendo announcements directly to the fans (imagine the grand hand gesture here). It’s a testament to the efficiency of the Nintendo team that always seems to hit the mark. Ten out of ten, Mario and crew!
The app didn’t spill any additional details about the movie beyond the date, so if you were hoping for a sneak peek or plot hints, you’ll have to wait a little longer. The anticipation surrounding the Zelda movie has been mounting since it was first announced back in 2023. Our contributor, Oisin Kuhnke, was initially floored by the news, partly due to Sony Pictures Entertainment’s involvement in co-financing the project alongside Nintendo. Despite the surprise, we all put our game faces on and committed to bringing you the news, no matter the circumstances.
Interestingly, Oisin seems to have a knack for predicting the future, having written last November that the Zelda movie wouldn’t be on screens “no sooner than 2027.” That was after Nintendo mentioned it would arrive in a year starting with a two, a zero, and another two.
