Stress Level Zero has really captured the attention of VR enthusiasts with their physics-based sandbox sequel, BONELAB (2022), making a big splash on the Quest platform. However, fans have been eagerly waiting for BONEWORKS (2019) to make its way to Meta’s latest standalone devices. Fortunately, the wait might soon be over.
If you’ve yet to experience Boneworks on a PC VR headset, it’s an immersive VR action-adventure that leverages cutting-edge experimental physics. The game presents an intense journey where you navigate through various environments, solve puzzles, and engage in combat using physics-based mechanics.
In a recent post on X, studio co-founder Brandon Laatsch shared some exciting goals for 2025. The team is not only rolling out updates for their Marrow Engine physics framework, crafted for Unity, but they’re also preparing to launch Boneworks on Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
You can get a sneak peek of what Boneworks looks like on Quest 3 below:
In his post, Laatsch highlighted that the studio is tackling the Marrow 2.0 release and porting Boneworks to Quest 3 simultaneously, while also kicking off early work on their next game project.
Interestingly enough, Quest users have already found a way to play Boneworks on Quest 2 and higher using a fan-made mod called ‘Labworks.’ It’s worth noting that despite the official version in the works, Laatsch emphasized that the studio doesn’t plan to take down Labworks. The indie developer ‘volx64’ put two years into creating this mod, and Laatsch believes the new Marrow Engine will bring significant enhancements beyond what a basic port could offer.
As of now, there’s no official release date, but we’ll be keeping a close watch on Laatsch’s X account and the studio’s YouTube channel for the latest news and updates.
