Sony Interactive Entertainment and Velan Studios have just introduced gamers to the adrenaline-pumping world of Midnight Murder Club. Now available in Early Access on the PlayStation 5, this game invites players into a unique experience that teeters on the brink of thrilling chaos. If you’re eager to explore more, dive into our detailed preview of Midnight Murder Club!
In this game, you’re drawn into an exclusive circle known as the Midnight Murder Club. As a new recruit, you’re equipped with just a gun and a flashlight before you step into the haunting corridors of a mansion cloaked in darkness. Each club member dons a mask to hide their identity while striving to make every bullet count. Miss, and you risk revealing your position to opponents lurking in the shadows. This multiplayer shooter allows you to compete online with players across the globe, host private matches with friends, or let the game fill in opponents with AI for certain modes.
Reflecting on this immersive world, I recall testing out another game in the same genre, Blindside, back in late 2024, which also debuted in Early Access on Sony’s platform. Like Midnight Murder Club, it’s an online multiplayer FPS where visibility is limited unless you light up your surroundings with your weapon or use a clever sonar tactic to detect nearby foes. Fast forward to 2025, and Midnight Murder Club offers its own distinctive allure. While Blindfire is all about the temptation of fame and riches amidst peril, this game appeals as a status symbol. Purchasers of the Midnight Murder Club even enjoy the perk of inviting up to five friends at no extra charge, thanks to the PlayStation 5 Guest Pass Edition.
From a first-person perspective, Midnight Murder Club is all about strategy and stealth. Navigating your character is intuitive: the left analog stick moves you around, while the right one helps you aim. Sprinting for extra speed is as simple as pressing in on the left stick, and crouching by clicking the right. Illuminate dark corners with the L2 button, toggling your flashlight on and off, but keep in mind, it could also betray your location to opponents!
Need to engage in combat? It’s straightforward. Use the R2 button to fire, or, if you’re up close, take a chance with a knife attack using R1. The Square button is your key to interaction, allowing you to open doors or operate slot-like machines that dispense game-changing items – or as they call them, ‘toys’. Among these toys are a molotov cocktail, a handy machine gun, a neat gadget that temporarily reveals player positions, or a bulletproof vest offering protection against a few hits.
Though it’s in Early Access, Midnight Murder Club doesn’t skimp on rewards. The game features a comprehensive trophy list, complete with a coveted Platinum trophy, motivating players to engage fully. Your journey to that Platinum trophy is peppered with achievements like shooting with the flashlight off, neutralizing an enemy opening a crate, experiencing team betrayal, scoring a kill during an enemy’s revival attempt, and plenty more. Whether it’s winning a Team Deathmatch, playing several Free For All matches, or reviving and defeating a multitude, the challenges are diverse.
The Midnight Murder Club now welcomes you to its thrilling realm. With your invitation, all you’ll need is a gun and a flashlight to brave the mansion’s haunted shadows. Trust no one, make every shot count, and remember, staying concealed is your key to survival. And if you wish to expand that experience, the Midnight Murder Club Guest Pass Edition is your ticket to play alongside a friend, courtesy of those who hold the Early Access Edition available for $19.99.
