Yesterday, Sony lifted the curtain on the PS Plus Essential games lined up for January 2025, and let’s just say, it didn’t quite hit the mark for some subscribers. Leading the pack of this month’s free offerings is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League for the PS5, a title that’s already infamous for its less-than-stellar reception.
Scrolling down to the chatter among PS Plus members reveals quite a bit of dissatisfaction with this January’s selection. Alongside the Suicide Squad game, we’ve got Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered for the PS4, and The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, available on both PS4 and PS5 platforms. It’s interesting to note that Suicide Squad is being offered free right as Warner Bros. is pulling the plug on the game—a move that highlights its disappointing performance.
While Need for Speed and The Stanley Parable are generally well-regarded, the community isn’t holding back, expressing a sense of letdown when comparing this year’s lineup to those of previous Januarys over the last few years. Many gamers feel this selection just doesn’t measure up. One player didn’t mince words, commenting, “Suicide Squad likely isn’t even worth it at $0 either.” Another chimed in, “Amazon gave it away for free to Prime subscribers,” with a third user sarcastically adding, “They really gonna start 2025 by giving us a dead live service game no one wants.”
For those eager to snag these Essential games, they’ll be available starting Tuesday, January 7. Don’t forget that you’ve got until the 6th to secure December’s offerings in your library before they’re gone.
