The latest installment from Softstar Entertainment and PQUBE, The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication, offers a gripping first-person horror adventure on the PS5. In my dive into The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication, I discovered an experience that seeks to build upon its predecessor, The Bridge Curse: Road to Salvation, which I reviewed back in 2023. This time around, we venture into the eerie halls of Wen Hua University. Whispers of curses and a plethora of ghostly entities fill this locale, especially when the university’s film club’s Carnival of Horror event blurs fiction with reality, turning what should be a recruitment boost into a nightmarish ordeal.
Throughout your journey, you’ll step into the shoes of four distinct characters: Sue Lian, Richie Chen, A-Hai, and Wu-Zi Nan. Sue Lian, a former lead anchor at United News, now works as a reporter. Richie Chan, currently a junior, and A-Hai, a sophomore, both study finance at Wen Han University, while Wu-Zi Nan is a veterinary medicine freshman. Their lives take an intertwined course once the curse fully envelops the university, unleashing supernatural chaos.
Staying true to the genre, The Bridge Curse 2 keeps the first-person perspective pivotal for the immersiveness it offers. Use the analog sticks to navigate and observe your surroundings, and with danger always afoot, quick reflexes are a must. You can swiftly change direction with the R2 button or sprint by pushing the left analog stick. For those stealth-required moments, press the right stick to crouch, minimizing noise and avoiding detection.
In this haunted environment, every sound matters. Enemies will latch onto the faintest rustle or careless bump into the scenery. Interactions are straightforward, engaging characters or items with the X button. Your inventory is accessible via the Triangle button, while the Square button flips open your cellphone. Navigating its functions is as simple as a press of L1 and R1, ensuring you stay updated with calls, messages, and make full use of your map via the Touchpad.
Acquiring the Anima lantern becomes an essential tool, enabling the exposure of clues and dispelling of evil forces. By tapping R1, the lantern casts a light that guides you to the next vital discovery. Its power doesn’t end there; it’s your haven against ghostly attacks, soaking up a single lethal blow before needing a recharge.
For trophy hunters, this game comes with a complete trophy list, including a coveted Platinum. Since it’s a Cross-Buy title, owning the game lets you download both PS4 and PS5 versions, each with its own trophy collection. These consist of 12 Bronze, 5 Silver, and 8 Gold trophies. To secure that shiny Platinum, you’ll need to achieve story completions, conquer additional tasks, find every collectible, and meet your fate in a multitude of ways. Should you find yourself in need of direction, the available trophy guide stands ready to assist.
In this haunt-filled follow-up, players are challenged to navigate the uncertain borders between the horror of the film club’s creation and a cursed reality. Take control of characters Sue Lian, Richie Chen, A-Hai, and Wu-Zi Nan as they confront the escalating supernatural dangers. Available for $24.99, the Cross-Buy feature lets you enjoy The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication on both PS4 and PS5 at no extra charge. As you embark on this terrifying adventure, bear in mind that my review is based on the PS5 version provided by PQube.
