Ever since the announcement that Forza Horizon 5 would be making its way to the PS5, it feels like the floodgates have opened for Xbox games finding a home on Sony consoles. Among these whispers, there’s a buzz about Marcus Fenix taking his epic battle against the Locust Horde to PlayStation. This potential release isn’t just a singular game, but a collection of the first three Gears of War titles, and it looks like both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will be welcoming it at the same time.
### An Exciting PS5 Release for Gears of War Fans
A well-known leaker, eXtas1s, has shared that a Gears of War collection is apparently in development. While the official announcement date remains under wraps, they hinted that this release will be available on multiple platforms right from the start. There’s some good news for cross-platform players too: it will allow gamers across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation to join forces in the multiplayer experience.
In a statement translated by ResetEra member Rychu, eXtas1s mentioned, “I can talk about Gears Collection because [the] Gears Collection has cost me a lot to corroborate its existence, but it seems that it exists, and I can confirm that at the moment in which Gears Collection is announced, which I don’t know when it will be, but it will be announced as a multiplatform day one. I repeat again. When these kinds of remasters are announced, remasters of the old Gears games are going to be able to be cross-platform [allowing players to] play simultaneously. The only thing I haven’t been able to confirm is the launch of a Switch version, but it can be played cross-platform on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.”
This isn’t the first instance we’ve caught wind of Gears of War possibly landing on the PS5. Earlier this month, Jez Corden from Windows Central suggested that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition might be hitting Sony’s console as early as 2025.
While these rumors and speculations are exciting, it’s wise to approach them with a bit of skepticism. Sure, the chatter from leakers creates a web of anticipation, but we all know game development is a dynamic process. Everything can change overnight, rendering all our hopes moot. Until we hear something official, we’ll just have to keep dreaming and speculating.
