Combat Waffle Studios and Beyond Frames Entertainment, known for their VR survival shooter Ghosts of Tabor, have exciting news for gamers. This week, they’re launching a new VR game into early access, drawing heavy inspiration from the popular 2018 game, Rust.
Developed by Spoonfed Interactive with significant help from Combat Waffle, the game called GRIM is set to deliver a Rust-like multiplayer survival experience to both PC VR and Quest users starting this month.
In the same vein as Rust, GRIM emphasizes crafting and scavenging for survival essentials like food, all set against the backdrop of a resource-depleted Mars. This planet is littered with the remnants of unsuccessful colonization attempts. Players can dive into the first version available on SteamVR headsets and Quest beginning Thursday, January 16th.
Stranded on the barren landscapes of Mars, Grim challenges players with its extreme weather and numerous abandoned outposts to explore and loot. Monitoring your various health levels, such as hunger, hydration, and oxygen, is crucial. Your constructions will remain in the persistent game environment, though they’ll be wiped weekly when the server resets.
Returning to support this ambitious project, Beyond Frames Entertainment, who also published Ghosts of Tabor, is teaming up again to publish GRIM. Simultaneously, Combat Waffle Studios is providing continual developer resources and guidance to Spoonfed Interactive, which is a solo development endeavor.
The creators are launching Grim’s Early Access Alpha as “the beginning of a collaborative development journey,” similar to how they approached Ghosts of Tabor’s release. They encourage early adopters to share their feedback actively, helping refine the game’s mechanics, features, and overall development trajectory.
Ready to explore Mars? Players on both Quest and SteamVR can grab Grim in Early Access Alpha starting January 16th, for a price of $20.
