Pokémon GO fans are buzzing with mixed feelings over the noticeably long wait for the Might and Mastery’s Special Research Tasks. While some find the delay simply vexing, others see it as a clever strategy to release content gradually.
As the 18th season unrolls its features, legendary Pokémon like Regice, alongside favorites like Growlithe and Electrike, are in the spotlight. However, the wait for tasks is proving to be a hot topic of conversation.
Recently, a Pokémon GO player took to Reddit to air their grievances about the long pauses between tasks. These special tasks require players to complete a series of challenges involving everything from defeating Team GO Rocket members to engaging with Professor Willow. Though these tasks are a hallmark of Pokémon GO’s augmented reality gameplay—where trainers venture outdoors to catch and train Pokémon—the process isn’t sitting well with everyone.
First released in 2016, Pokémon GO has been guiding fans through a mix of virtual and real-world adventures for years. The game recently moved to the hands of Scopely, the creators of Monopoly GO, after Niantic’s near-decade run, leaving fans anxious about the future.
One Redditor, going by the name dearmratheist, shared their experience on the Pokémon GO subreddit, posting a screenshot with three out of five tasks done. They questioned if anyone else was equally frustrated by the wait. Instead of listing upcoming tasks, a message simply read: “Professor Willow is currently performing an investigation regarding this research. Check back soon.” The poster voiced a preference for a long task rather than unpredictable intervals that make it seem like the developers aren’t sure of the next step.
This sentiment isn’t isolated. While some players are irked by these wait times, others defend the approach, appreciating the narrative style of rolling out tasks over several days. Comments suggest that this method keeps players logging in regularly, which seems to be part of Niantic’s strategy. What’s more, the tasks being free is another point of defense for this slow-drip approach.
As the Might and Mastery season started on March 4 and runs until June 3, it introduces new perks and Pokémon to capture, like enhanced Stardust or guaranteed Rare Candy XL from specific events. Featuring Pokémon this season include Growlithe and Electrike in different geographical settings, with Regice appearing as a formidable Raid Boss.
The game continues to evolve, integrating new experiences and challenges into the familiar format players have come to love—or sometimes feel frustrated by. Pokémon GO continues to be a fan favorite despite the occasional in-game controversies, proving the game’s ability to endure and adapt.
