Last summer, Electronic Arts (EA) thrilled fans with the announcement that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor would make its way to last-generation consoles, after initially being exclusive to current-gen systems. With the game set to launch on September 17 for the PS4 and Xbox One, Respawn Entertainment and EA have finally shared some exciting details and gameplay footage.
Originally released in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the sequel to 2019’s beloved Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It continues the epic journey of former Jedi Cal Kestis and his band of misfits in their battle against the Empire. The game was a hit, receiving accolades and glowing reviews. Now, we’ve got our first look at how it runs on the PS4 Pro.
EA provided a tantalizing five-minute glimpse of the gameplay on the PS4 Pro, showcasing various combat scenarios and exploratory moments. To be honest, I’m pleasantly surprised by how robust this last-gen adaptation appears.
Bringing Survivor to the PS4 Pro and other older consoles certainly posed challenges, resulting in a few compromises compared to the sophisticated current-gen versions. The most noticeable of these is the framerate. According to Respawn, the game on PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, and Xbox One X runs at 30 frames per second, with no 60 FPS option available.
Here’s the breakdown of the official performance targets for each platform provided by EA and Respawn:
- PS4 Pro: 1080p at 30 FPS
- Xbox One X: 1440p at 30 FPS
- PS4: 900p at 30 FPS
- Xbox One: 720p at 30 FPS
Given the age and capability of these platforms, these targets are understandable. However, I’d caution against opting for the Xbox One version of Survivor. The game is stunning, even at 1080p, and experiencing it at 720p and 30 FPS would be less than ideal for such a visually impressive Star Wars adventure.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is set to launch for PS4 and Xbox One on September 17, priced at an appealing $50.
